About Us
We,
John, Brändy, Jary & Mika van Velzen
moved from Kwintsheul, Ommen (Holland) to Altenmarkt in August 2008!
After both children were born we told each other that if we still wanted to start a bed and breakfast we have to do it within a few years before our children get older.
Austria was always in our dreams. We made our dream come true and moved to Altenmarkt im Pongau. John worked for 7 years as an electrical engineer on cruise ships for Holland America Line. After this another 7 years for the ferry company Stena Line between Hook of Holland and Harwich. After we moved to Altenmarkt, John started working as operator/electrical engineer on gas production platforms for Gaz de France Suez in the North Sea.
Brändy studied at a school for tourism and did a practical year at Stena Line. After this practical year she stayed at Stena Line for another 15 years, sealing on ferry ships between Hook of Holland and Harwich. She started working at the reception and later moved to the shops on board as shop assistant and shop manager.
Both enjoyed working at sea and still do, but kept dreaming of living in the mountains in Austria.
At one of our skiing holidays we had the idea to move to Austria and start a bed and breakfast. For John this gave the opportunity to keep his job and work for two weeks offshore and stay for two weeks time off in Austria. We both made our dream come thru, moved in August 2008 to Altenmarkt im Pongau and started our pension Haus Salzburgerland
We hope to see you soon in our house, enjoying your holidays.
